The anatomic relationship of the aortic and mitral valves is a useful landmark in assessing congenital heart malformations. The atrioventricular and semilunar valve regions originate in widely separated parts of the early embryonic heart tube, and the process by which the normal fibrous continuity between the aortic and mitral valves is acquired has not been clearly defined. The aortomitral continuity (also known as the aortomitral curtain, aorticomitral junction, intervalvular fibrous body ) is a fibrous sheet located between the noncoronary and left coronary leaflets of the aortic valve and anterior leaflet of the mitral valve . It is attached by the left and right fibrous trigones to the left ventricular myocardium.

The valvular leaflets are attached across the ventriculoarterial junction (VAJ) in crown-like fashion running onto either the muscle of the ventricular septum (VS) or the mitral valve (MV). The mitral valve is also called a bicuspid valve and plays an important role in your heart. Here's more information about the heart's mitral valve, its function and some of the diseases that affect the mitral valve. The treatment of mitral valve stenosis is discussed including percutaneous mitral balloon valvotomy and mitral valve replacement.
aortic–mitral continuity Fan Wang1, Xuelian Song1, Yi Dang1, Shangzhi Shu2 and Shuyan Li2 Abstract Catheter ablation of accessory pathways can be challenging depending on the location of these pathways, and accessory pathways are rare through the aortic cusps. Background— The aortomitral continuity (AMC) has been described as a site of origin for ventricular tachycardias (VT) in structurally normal hearts.

Methods: Procedural records of 528 consecutive patients undergoing ablation of … It provides electrical insulation at the atrioventricular level and fibrous continuity for the leaflets of the mitral, aortic, and tricuspid valves. Its components include the fibrous trigones, the fibrous area of aortic-mitral continuity, the subvalvar collar of the mitral valve, the membranous septum, the interleaflet triangles, the tendon of Todaro, and likely the conus ligament.
Patients who underwent PPMI had a higher prevalence of AMCC than patients without PPMI (69% versus 32%; P<0.0001), as well as higher median AMCC score (263 versus 0; P<0.0001).There was no difference in aortic valve calcification and mitral annular calcification between patients with and without PPMI (all P≥0.09).

With the normal M-A continuity, the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve (ALMV) is directly joined to the aortic root. The ALMV has one small portion that inserts into the interventricular septa (adjacent to the membranous septum), and another free portion that forms the M-A continuity (from the nadir point of the left coronary cusp to the nadir point of the noncoronary cusp). The aortic-mitral valvar continuity is reinforced to either side by the thick dense fibrous tissue of the right and left fibrous trigones, which are found at the nadirs of the aortic noncoronary (nonfacing) sinus and left coronary sinus, respectively (Figs 6, 12).
